Working Towards Green Logistics

Intelcom signed The Climate Pledge in 2021 and has committed to be net zero carbon for our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2040.

Reducing our Carbon Footprint

Why are we committed to sustainability?

We joined the Climate Pledge, as we are committed to improving the lives of future generations and the environment and this commitment underscores our sense of responsibility in working towards a solution to address this pressing issue. This commitment aligns with our values as a Company.

What does our Journey to Reducing our Carbon Footprint look like?

Our journey to reduce our carbon footprint will follow the following steps:

  1. Measure our carbon footprint for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
  2. Determine science-based targets (Targets are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.)
  3. Implement a net zero strategy to reduce and eventually eliminate our carbon emissions
  4. Report annual updates on our progress on reducing our carbon footprint, our targets and our net zero strategy

What is the approach that we are taking for reporting our progress?

As the commitment to the Climate Pledge requires regular reporting on the status of our progress on reducing our carbon footprint, our targets and our net zero strategy, we are using internationally recognized standards and reporting frameworks that will be validated independently by third parties.

Climate change will have a negative impact on people's lives, on future generations, on our own kids. We can't wait any longer, we must be part of the solution.

Joining The Climate Pledge

The Climate Pledge is a commitment for businesses and organizations to take collective action on the world’s greatest crisis, and to work together to build a safe and healthy planet for future generations. Signatories commit to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Being part of The Climate Pledge also means joining a community of businesses that work together and share knowledge, ideas, and best practices. Over 300 signatories across multiple industries from around the world, including Intelcom and our Australian subsidiary Dragonfly Shipping, have joined.

How will we reduce our carbon emissions?

As mentioned above, the first step of our journey is to accurately measure our footprint and determine our targets to reduce our emissions. This step will allow us to pinpoint exactly what areas of our operations we need to change to meet these targets. Some options that we are actively pursuing to achieve our target: be net-zero carbon by 2040.

2023

INTELCOM JOINS THE SMART FREIGHT CENTRE

Intelcom joined the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) in January 2023. The SFC is a globally active non-profit organization for climate action in the freight sector. The SFC's goal is to guide the global logistics industry to track and reduce its GHG emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. SFC collaborate with its global partners to quantify impacts, identify solutions, and advocate logistics decarbonization strategies.

MEASURE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

We have completed the measurement of our 2022 baseline carbon footprint for our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and our first mile, middle mile and last mile accounts for about 75% of our carbon emissions.

SCIENCE BASED TARGETS

Based on the analysis of our carbon emissions, we have developed science-based targets to be able to reduce our carbon emissions to zero by 2040 and we will be submitting these targets for approval to the Science-Based Targets initiative. (Targets are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.). This validation takes a year to be approved.

NET ZERO STRATEGY & ROADMAP

Based on our 2022 baseline carbon footprint and science-based targets, we have developed a net zero plan to reduce our emissions and to be net zero carbon by 2040.
